Krewe de Barkus opens Mardi Gras Nocona-Style

Let the good times roll in Nocona this week for the ninth annual Madi Gras Nocona-Style Festival Feb. 21-23.
This family-friendly event is three days of food, fun, music and parades. Every day will feature a different parade with its own Nocona twist on Mardi Gras fun.
The Krewe de Barkus Dog Parade begins at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the downtown park. Sponsored by Lucky Paws Animal Shelter people are invited to dress up their pets and walk in the parade.
Entrants pay $5 donation to Lucky Paws. To be eligible for judging and prizes, pre-register at the Nocona Chamber of Commerce in Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum at 1522 E. Hwy 82. Otherwise, you may register at the park beginning at 4:30 pm.
The dog parade will be followed by the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at Mardi Gras Headquarters, 217 Clay Street.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.

Youngsters attend swimming lessons this week
