Court approves lease fees for new election equipment

In other agenda items for the Montague County Commissioner’s Court on Monday.
County Elections Administrator Ginger Wall asked the court to consider new lease rates for the recently purchased election equipment. The last new equipment arrived in 2005 and was purchased through a federal grant program.
The county purchased 40 voting machines, 12 counters and 12 poll books that have arrived at a total cost of about $240,000. Wall said they are allowed to charge up to 10 percent of the purchase price when leasing out any electronic equipment used in the location.
The purchase price of a machine is $3,325, $5,750 for a counter and $1,150 for a poll book.
At present machines are leased at a cost of $59.90 per machine per day for early voting and $119,80 on election day. The poll books have not had a fee.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.

Youngsters attend swimming lessons this week
