FANTASY OF LIGHTS: Bowie’s offense falters in loss

The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team continued its rough-and-tumble schedule this past weekend at the Fantasy of Lights Tournament.
Under the bright lights of the large school girls’ division championship at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, the Lady Rabbits played a competitive game against one of Texas’ best private schools – Prestonwood Christian Academy of Plano.
Logan McMurray worked a nifty give-and-go to Tennessee State-signee Jordan Brightwell with 1 minute, 5 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Lady Rabbits were down only 40-37, and the game was set to become a fourth-quarter cliffhanger.
However, Bowie (5-2 record) committed several successive turnovers during the fourth frame while Prestonwood (8-0) built its lead to as many as 17 points.
Just like that, the drama was zapped.
“I think it was fatigue,” Bowie head girls’ basketball coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said. “We were tired. We made some mistakes and had trouble scoring. Good teams are going to take advantage of that.”
How good is Prestonwood? The Lions are the defending Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools’ Class 5A champion, and they are currently ranked second in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
