More than 700 laws go into effect on Sept. 1 in Texas

There will be more than 700 new laws going into effect come Sept. 1 stemming from the 86th Legislative session.
Each biennial laws are introduced on a variety of topics. There are more than 70 new laws affecting programs administered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation from massage therapy to podiatry, nine new laws relate to loosening restrictions on where you can have a gun and there are a bevy of new rules for everything from lemonade stands to brass knuckles.
In the wake of the El Paso shooting where 22 people were killed gun-friendly laws are taking effect. The majority are connected to those who are licensed to carry.
House Bill 121 provides a defense to license to carry holders who unknowingly enter establishments that prohibit guns with signage if the LTC holder promptly leaves after being asked.

Members of the Stoneburg Volunteer Fire Department will serve up its annual fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 3 at the Bowie Community Center, 413 Pelham Street.
Dinner includes fish with all the trimmings, served for donations only.
