Bowie, Nocona marching bands in final week before UIL contest

Montague County’s two high school marching bands competed well in their final festival before the University Interscholastic League Regional Marching contest scheduled Oct. 19.
Nocona’s Pride of the Tribe under the direction of Erin Hanson and Bowie’s Mighty Marching Maroon under the direction of German Torres traveled to the Ponder Marching Classic Saturday and both advanced to the finals.
Nocona placed third in 3A, sixth overall in the finals of the top 10 bands at the contest. Bowie placed eighth in the preliminaries and seventh in the finals. Read the full story on the UIL contest in the mid-week Bowie News.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
