Six-man all-star game this week

The Texas Six-Man Coaches Association presents its all-star games this week on July 15-16.
Not only will there be a football all-star games for division I and division II players, but there will also be a boy’s and girl’s basketball all-star games as well.
From Montague County, there are five athletes who are confirmed to be playing in the games along with a coaching staff.
From Gold-Burg, Kolton Whitaker and Kani Grace will be playing in the division II football all-star game.
Both were a part of the most successful teams in school history, winning the program’s first district title and playoff game in 2021. From Forestburg, Braxton Osteen will join them on the east team.
The other two athletes from rival schools Saint Jo and Forestburg will team up to play in the girl’s basketball all-star game.
The Lady Panther’s Elaina Everson and the Lady Horn’s Faith Moore will represent their schools one last time playing for the east team.
Finally, the football coaching staff from Saint Jo led by Coach Mark Stevens will be leading the east team in the division I all-star football game. Assistant coaches are Daniel Lindenborn, Bob Bowden and Mason Binder.
Both football games are scheduled to play at Iowa Park High School. The division I game is at 7:30 p.m. on July 15. The division II game will be played at the same time and place on July 16.
The basketball games will be played at Rider High School on July 16. The girl’s game is scheduled to play first at noon while the boy’s game will follow at 2 p.m.

Nocona, G-Burg get Friday night wins

Nocona and Gold-Burg opened district play with convincing wins Oct. 9 while Saint Jo and Forestburg suffered tough losses.

Brief summaries of area county games follow:

Nocona 49, Chico 7

The Indians nearly had a shutout but managed to get the road win. Nocona Coach Jeff Hill said Chico turnovers and Nocona capitalizing on them was a big key to the win.

“We took advantage of those opportunities, and I’m proud of how our guys executed offensively when it happened,” Hill said. “We would have had a shutout if not for a pick-six which the defense made a really good play.”

Bowie FB falls in 4-3A opener

Peaster jumped out to a 20-0 lead midway through the first quarter and Bowie was never fully able to recover in a 50-14 District 4-3A Division I game Oct. 9.

Bowie, which lost its second straight game, is 4-3 overall while Peaster is 3-4. Rabbit Coach Tyler Price said Peaster capitalized on Rabbit mistakes.

“When you don’t do your job, you get exposed,” Price said. “The same mistakes are continually showing up and we’re not able to fix them right now.” Price said a good look in the mirror by both players and coaches has to happen if things are going to improve.

Bowie XC boys head to regionals

Bowie’s teams competed in the District 6-3A Meet at Burkburnett High Oct. 12.

Brayden Willett and Kellen Rater finished 1-2 individually with ties of 16:44.29 and 17:17.80 to lead the Rabbits in a 2^nd-place finish. Hayden Cos was 11^th in 19:26.39, Hayden Sutton was 16^th in 20:03.33 with Shawn Willett 19^th in 20:29.34. Also running for Bowie was Coleman Holloway in 20:39.44 and Taven Melton running a 20:54.19.

The Lady Rabbits finished 4^th led by Laney Segura with a time of 14:09.89. Bella Lozano finished with a time of 15:20.49 followed by Isabella Casell in 15:30.43, An’Dee Miller in 15:39.61, Angeles Alvarez in 15:44.87 and Kylee Waldrep in 16:27.33.

The boys sualified for Regionals in Lubbock Oct. 27.
