Both on the verge of clinching playoff spots from district 1A-21, the Bellevue High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played visiting Tioga.
In the girls’ game, Bellevue outscored Tioga 16-8 in the opening quarter, setting the tone in a 56-38 victory.
Bellevue reached double-digit scoring in all four quarters, but head coach Bryan Goehring was more impressed with how the Lady Eagles played defense.
“I thought we played pretty well on defense,” he said.
The win secured a playoff spot for the Lady Eagles, but there is still work to be done in district play, which includes Tuesday’s home clash with Forestburg.
Bellevue could play the role of spoiler. Should the Lady Eagles win, they would keep Forestburg from securing a piece of the District 1A-21 title with Slidell.
Hannah McWilliams paced the Lady Eagles with 20 points. Alex Brown and Madi Eckeberger both had eight points, and Devon Cassetty chipped in with seven.
