TWISTED OAKS NOTEBOOK: Holcomb to be guest clinician

Long-drive specialist Shawn Holcomb will be putting on an exhibition and clinic for the Bowie High School boys’ golf team at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21.
Holcomb, from the Texas Panhandle, has competed in national and international long-driving contests.
Last fall, Holcomb finished 41st in the Long Drivers of America world championships. One of his drives went an astonishing 427 feet.
Wells records fourth ace
Cal Wells recorded a hole-in-one on Hole No. 3 Sunday during the Big Game at Twisted Oaks Golf Club.
This was Wells’ fourth career ace.
Odds of a hole-in-one are estimated at 14,000 to 1, according to Twisted Oaks PGA professional Ron Moxom.
Wells of Bowie shot the low round of the day with a 2-under-par 68.
The par-3 played at 122 yards.
Trace Morris and Terry Gunter served as the witnesses; and the trio won the overall prize at plus-4. The trio of Ken Rhoades, Andy Duke and Truman Duke were second at plus-10.
The Tuesday scramble will return at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.
This will be a four-person, five-hole scramble.

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
