Wheels & Grills increases prize money
Celebrating the 10th annual Wheels and Grills the High Point Cooker prize has been increased to $3,000 along with a free pair of Fenoglio Boots
The cook-off is heating up on Sept. 20-21 in downtown Nocona. Staying true to the native cuisine of Texas, participants will be preparing a wide range of barbecue-inspired dishes including brisket, ribs, chicken, pork butt, beans, salsa and drink concoctions.
The event also will feature a car and motorcycle show and a cornhole tournament on Sept. 21.
The Nocona Gas Junkies will be hosting a car and motorcycle show on Sept. 21. There are two categories: Cars – Top 10 and Best of Show; Motorcycle – Top 5 and Best of Show. Registration begins at 9 am through noon at the corner of Clay and Main Streets. The judging is between noon and 1 p.m. with awards at 1:30 p.m.

The cast and crew of “A Family Reunion to Die For,” has been busy rehearsing for their murder mystery dinner theater production on May 30 and May 31.
The reunion soon turns sour with murder at a western-style bed and breakfast in the tropics.

Show times are 6:30 p.m. on May 30 and May 31 with an afternoon show at noon on May 31 all at the Freedom Life Church. There will be live and silent auction.
All proceeds benefit Montague County students for scholarships in the arts. Come support these thespians.

Speed limit changes are being put in place on FM 103 North of Nocona. The 60-mph zone is being pushed North of Grayson Street.
As part of the transition, the 45-mph speed limit will be extended just North of the Texas New Mexico Power Office. Drivers see 50 mph signs up to Grayson Street where it becomes a 60-mph zone.
Portable message boards were placed on FM 103 on May 27 to advise motorists of the upcoming changes. The new signs will be unveiled and be enforceable starting June 3.
Citizens and officials with the City of Nocona requested the changes. They were approved by the Texas Transportation Commission in April.
Drivers should be prepared to watch and observe these new speed limits signs in Nocona. Drive safely in Montague County.
The members of the Montague County Commissioner’s Court will meet at 9 a.m. on May 27 in the courthouse annex.
Items on the agenda are as follows: Consent agenda, fueling energy and operations update from Pam Hughes Pak with Atmos Energy Corporation, proclamation naming June was Elder Abuse Awareness Month in the county, consider WiFi at new county animal shelter, consider Nortex Housing Finance Corporation tax-exempt obligations (Sun Valley apartments), precinct one request to transfer $200,000 from reserves to gravel, precinct request to store fill dirt on Chance Simpson’s property in Ringgold and budget workshop.
