AREA FOOTBALL: Gold-Burg opens with rout

Gold-Burg won a season-opening game for the first time since 2007 as the Bears whitewashed Winston School 46-0 in Murphy on Friday.
The Gold-Burg defense was bearish, not allowing Winston to cross the 40-yard line once during the game. In fact, the Bears didn’t yield a single first down.
Gold-Burg is 1-0 heading into Friday’s game at Wichita Falls Christian.
The game was called with 7 minutes, 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Gold-Burg first-year head coach Jay Johnson reported.
Josh Belt rushed for 69 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News, including recaps of how Forestburg and Saint Jo did the first week of the season.
