Montague School conducts awards program
The late Dan Hamric, former longtime Montague Superintendent.
On May 19 the Montague Independent School District staff had their annual seventh and eighth grade banquet.
The evening started with a delicious dinner provided by Prime Cut Steakhouse. With more than 80 attendees, the presentation of awards and acknowledgments ensued as an outstanding school year was celebrated.
The evening’s first honor was the induction of former Superintendent Dan Hamric onto the MISD Wall of Honor. Hamric served as superintendent from 1986-1996.

Two Montague County schools are in the top 12 of the Texas Lone Star Cup as of March 24.
The University Interscholastic League Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification will receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship.
The Lone Star Cup includes points earned from top result in cross country, volleyball, robotics BEST, football, Congress, spirit, swimming and diving, mariachi, film and basketball. These standings were as of March 21.
In 1A Saint Jo is tied in 11th place with 26 points. Other schools in the tie are Clyde, Eula, Gordon and Richland Springs. Jayton is in first place with 47 points.
In 2A, Nocona is tied in 11th place with Shelbyville and Lindsay with 29 points. Martin Mills is in first place with 43 points, Windthorst is second with 36 points and Muenster is sixth with 31 points.
In 3A, Holliday is in first with 50 points. Wichita Falls City View is tied with five other schools in 21st place with 24 points.
In 4A the only area school listed is Decatur which is in third place with 55 points.

Bowie High School’s one-act play, “View from a Bridge” by Arthur Miller won the district contest on March 6 advancing to bi-district on April 1 in Clyde.
Director April Word said Henrietta and Holliday also advance, but the play from district 8 has not been selected. At the district contest Bowie took first place and had the best overall tech crew of Aowyn Word, Keller Dosch, Adamari Alonso, Elise Fitch and TJ Ferguson. Alonso received an individual tech award.
Corban Word, Lili Zilfo and Corben Wolsey were named to the All Star cast. Lia Meier was named best performer.
