County lifts burn ban; review road grant funding, projects

Published

on

Montague County Commissioners lifted the ban on outdoor burning at their Monday meeting; however, the court said with the first freeze expected soon, it could be back on due pretty soon.

The county has been under a burn ban since Sept. 14. County Judge Rick Lewis said the county offices have been bombarded with phone calls about the burn ban since recent rains.

Commissioner Mark Murphey said made the motion to lift the burn ban but added, “when the first freeze gets here we will probably go back because there is a tremendous fuel load out there.”

The motion passed unanimously.

With the pending arrival of anywhere from $6 to $8 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds to help make repairs from the springs floods, and with a little more than a year to go to use up the county infrastructure grant funds, the court voted to hire a person to assist with handling the paperwork associated with the grants.
