Lady Rabbits softball lose road game

Published

on

The Bowie Lady Rabbits traveled to Bridgeport on Friday to take on the Sissies.
Despite out-hitting and playing a cleaner game than Bridgeport, it was the Sissies who won 14-8.
Bowie was able to get a runner on base with one out in the first inning, but Bridgeport was able to catch the Lady Rabbits trying to steal second to end any scoring chance.
The Sissies leadoff batter was able to get on base. After stealing second base and advancing on a ground out, the runner was on third base. Bridgeport was able to score on a sacrifice bunt to give it a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rabbits were able to respond well in the second inning. A leadoff walk and a double from Kimber Clower put two runners in scoring position for Bowie with no outs.
Next batter Gracie Bentley was able to drive in both runners with a single up the middle. Hannah Love hit another single to put two runners on base again. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position.
Two batters later Season Eudey hit a double to center field that drove in both runners to give Bowie a 4-1 lead.
Bridgeport responded with a two out walk in the bottom of the second inning. A steal and a passed ball put the runner on third when she was driven in with a single. A wild pitch moved the runner to second and two batters later was driven in with another single to cut the lead to 4-3 heading into the third inning.
The Lady Rabbits started the third inning off well with two runners getting on base. Both runners looked to steal and the Sissie’s catcher throw went wide, which allowed one run to score.
After a single from Bentley, Love grounded out to the shortstop, but it allowed another run to score that put Bowie up 6-3.
Bridgeport would not let them breathe. Back-to-back doubles scored another run and a steal home scored another to cut the lead to 6-5 before the Lady Rabbits got out of the inning with the lead.
Bowie had its first one-two-three inning with no base runners in the top of the fourth. This left the door open for the Sissies who put together the defining inning of the game for them.
Four walks to the first five batters scored a run to tie the game. An error at third base and in the outfield allowed three runs to score. A single and a sacrifice ground out scored two more runs to as Bridgeport now led 11-6 heading into the fifth inning.
The Leady Rabbits started the inning well. Reaching base due to an error and a single put two runners on with no outs. After a fielder’s choice out, a drawn walk loaded the bases with one out.
Unfortunately a strike out and the runner getting picked off at third ended the promising scoring chance with no runs. Thankfully, Bowie was able to force its first 1-2-3 inning as the game moved into the sixth inning.
Kylie Fleming led off with a triple to right field. An error at second base allowed her to score. The next batter drew a walk to get a base runner on. A pop out and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second base. Carrington Davis then hit a double to left field to drive the runner in as the lead was down to 11-8.
The Sissies were not content to lay down as the Lady Rabbits chipped away at their lead. A leadoff walk and hit batter put two base runners on.
The next batter hit a single to score another run. After a double steal put both base runners in scoring position, a single scored a run. Bowie was able to stop the other runner from scoring for the second out.
Another hit batter and walk loaded the bases when a single scored the third run of the inning as Bridgeport was up 14-8 heading into the final inning.
A leadoff single from Bailey Grant looked promising, but it was followed by three straight outs to end the game.

The Prairie Valley Bulldogs will be seeing a new face around the gym and fields next fall with the hiring of a new Athletic Director and Head Coach, Kent Caruthers.
Caruthers will be replacing Coach Seth Stephens, who has accepted a coaching job in LaPoynor, moving closer to his family and hometown. Although Coach Stephens will be missed after six years of being a part of the Prairie Valley family, Coach Caruthers will step into his new role with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Coach Caruthers has coached basketball, football, volleyball, cross country, track and golf.
He has a well-rounded background, which makes him the perfect candidate for a 1A coaching position.
He comes, most recently, from Matagorda where he was the athletic director, boys basketball, volleyball, and track coach.
He spent the majority of his coaching career at Tolar, where he was the head boys basketball coach, defensive coordinator for the varsity football team and head golf coach.
His record and experience speak for themselves, but when asked why he felt led to apply for this position, he said that the move north is all about coaching good kids.
His coaching philosophy revolves around hard work, stating “A winner is someone who recognizes their God-given talents, works their tail off developing the talents into skills and uses these skills to accomplish their goals.”
