For new Nocona High School girls’ basketball coach Brad McGann, this was just the opportunity he was looking for.
“I’ve wanted to be a head coach for a while now,” McGann said. “That’s what attracted me to the Nocona job. This gives me the chance to do something new, and different.”
McGann has also been tabbed as the head girls’ cross country coach. He will also be the head boys’ and girls’ golf coach and help with girls’ track and field.
In the classroom, McGann will serve as a technology teacher, which includes a computer applications course. McGann’s wife, Connie, is a new ninth-grade English teacher in the Gainesville Independent School District.
McGann replaces former coach Steven Grigsby, who accepted a similar position in Paradise down in Wise County.
For the past seven seasons, McGann was an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Hale Center in west Texas. The school has been successful in hoops, reaching the regional quarterfinals twice.
McGann discussed what to expect from Nocona’s girls’ basketball teams with him in charge.
“I have some set plays, but I like to coach up-tempo,” McGann said. If I’ve got the girls, I’d like to run up and down the floor.” Read the weekend edition of The Bowie News for more.
