Montague County Commissioners finalize proposed tax rate

Montague County Commissioners finalized a proposed 2014 tax rate and 2014-15 budget, after some last minute changes in a called meeting on Aug. 15.
Earlier in the week, the court had taken steps to go with the effective tax rate and use $400,000 from cash reserves for the budget. However, after further thought several commissioners asked County Judge Tommie Sappington for a called meeting to reconsider that action. Read details of that meeting in the mid-week News.
A proposed tax rate of .3620 cents per $100 in property value will be considered in a pair of public hearings at 9 a.m. Aug. 28 and 8:45 a.m. Sept. 8, both in the county courtroom of the annex. This proposed rate is .035 cents less than the 2013 rate of .397 cents.
