Red Sox Workman earns no decision

Former Bowie High School standout Brandon Workman returned to the major leagues on Thursday for the Boston Red Sox.
Workman started against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, but he didn’t factor in the decision.
Workman left the game with a 4-3 lead, but the Red Sox bullpen couldn’t hold it as New York tripped Boston 5-4.
Overall, Workman threw 96 pitches with 65 of them for strikes in six innings of work.
Brandon allowed three earned runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked just two. And he didn’t surrender any home runs, which had been Workman’s Achilles’ heel all season long.
Workman threw first-pitch strikes to 15 of 25 batters.
The Yankees scored all three of those runs in the third inning, thanks to a two-run double from Derek Jeter and an RBI single from Carlos Beltran.
Brock Holt, like Workman a native of Texas, staked his teammate to the lead with a home run. David Ortiz did everything in his power to help Workman earn the win, jolting a pair of dingers.
It’s unclear when Workman’s next start will take place, but he’s expected to remain with Boston for the remainder of the 2014 season and work as part of an expanded six-man rotation. Read more in the weekend edition of The Bowie News.
