Workman to pitch Thursday
All season long, Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman has been opposed by some of the toughest pitchers in the game.
Workman, who graduated from Bowie High School in 2007, will face Gerrit Cole of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., at 7 p.m.
Cole has a 9-5 record with a 3.92 earned-run average, and he’s had a 3-1 mark in interleague games. The Pirates are fighting for a wild-card berth in the National League, holding the lead as of press time.
Last Wednesday, the Baltimore Orioles chased Workman, who worked just three innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits.
Workman has dropped to 1-9 with the loss, and his ERA is a whopping 10.95 in his last three starts.
Workman’s struggles this season were documented in a story in last weekend’s edition of The Bowie News.
