The 59th annual Jim Bowie Days Celebrations kicks off this weekend with sporting activities.
This western celebration, that runs June 21-28, is one of the largest events hosted in Bowie each year honoring the western history of this community and rodeo.
Rodeo week was set to open with the annual Jim Bowie Days Bass Tournament and golf tournament on Saturday. Unfortunately, on June 16, Lake Amon G. Carter and Selma Park were closed due to localized flooding last weekend. At presstime it was unclear if the event would move forward on June 21. Watch bowienewsonline for updates or our Facebook page.
The Jim Bowie Days Golf Tournament was set to tee off at 8 a.m. June 21 at Top of Lake Golf Club. A second tee time was readied if needed for the two-man scramble. Cost is $100 per team and includes a meal. Call Seth Johnson at 940-531-1489 for additional details.
A new event joins the schedule this year, the first annual Smokedown, a barbecue cookoff across two days, June 20-21 at the Jim Bowie Rodeo Arena.
Items include chicken, pork spare ribs and brisket, along with a steak jackpot and beans cookoff.
