AREA FOOTBALL: Saint Jo readies for Newcastle

With Saint Jo falling to Tioga this past week in District 1A-9-I play, the Panthers season is on the line Friday against Newcastle at Harley Sewell Field.
“For any chance to control our own destiny, we need to win,” Saint Jo head coach Chad Tallon said. “It’s going to be a tough task, taking on a great program (like Newcastle).”
The Panthers (4-4, 0-1) are reeling, having lost in recent weeks to Forestburg, Savoy and now Tioga.
Tallon said for Saint Jo to have success against Newcastle, it must force the Bobcats to become pass-oriented. Their offense is run from a tight formation.
“We have to put pressure on them,” the coach commented.
The Bobcats will run a 4-2 defense with great athletes.
“They get off blocks well, so we’re going to have to sustain our blocking,” Tallon said.
Speaking of blocking, Tallon thought that’s what keyed up-and-coming Tioga’s victory over Saint Jo.
Saint Jo scored the game’s first touchdown on a 31-yard pass from Garrett Parker to Wyatt West.
Tioga scored 20 unanswered points until the Panthers’ Anthony Gutierrez punched in a 2-yard TD run.
