H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lopez, Huckabay blisters Bellevue early for victory

For the Bellevue High School girls’ basketball team, it was an ambush.
Huckabay had a 22-7 lead at the end of one quarter and Bellevue didn’t have an answer for it as the Indians defeated the Eagles 54-34 in a non-district game this past Friday.
“We got shell-shocked there,” said first-year head coach Bryan Goehring. “It was their intensity. They jumped on us and rode out the first quarter.”
Goehring thought Bellevue’s girls did a better job against Huckabay in the second half.
That much is true. Bellevue outscored Huckabay 17-15 during such time. But, by then, it was certainly too little, too late.
“Huckabay was aggressive,” Goehring said. “They were quicker to the ball, and they had more team speed from us.” Read more and see the complete box score in the mid-week Bowie News.
