The Forestburg High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams continued their push to the playoffs against rival Saint Jo Tuesday in District 1A-21 play.
The Lady Horns swamped Saint Jo, 53-13, while the Forestburg boys defeated the Panthers 36-33. Even with the loss, Saint Jo’s boys still have a chance to qualify for the postseason.
“We played a strong game,” said Lady Horns coach Rosana Barbosa. “We played a solid defense keeping them in single digits.”
The most points Forestburg’s defense allowed in the game was a seven-point fourth-quarter effort from Saint Jo. The Lady Horns held the Lady Panthers without a point in the second quarter, outscoring them 18-0 for a 31-4 halftime cushion.
“Our offense worked well because of the solid defense,” said Barbosa.
Sixteen of Forestburg’s points were courtesy of their fast break while 12 originated from offensive rebounds.
Makayla Mason and Alexia Britain both paced the Lady Horns with 14 points.
