Bowie Education Foundation names 2015 recipient; celebrates its 30th year for scholarships

Lily Gill, daughter of Darren and Valarie Gill, has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the Bowie Education Foundation Scholarship. (Pictured above)

The Bowie High School graduate will receive a $20,000 four-year scholarship paid out at $2,500 per semester.

The board of directors reviewed the applicants and interviewed the finalists during the last two weeks. Read about the recipient and the finalists in the mid-week News.

Also in the mid-week News, the Bowie Education Foundation reflects on all the scholarships its has presented during the past 30 years and the many success stories. Meet Miranda Smith Sarri, a 2007 BEF scholar who completed pharmacy school in 2014 and is serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and chief of pharmacy operations at Tyndal Air Force Base, Florida.

While she always had a clear direction for her higher education, the assistance that BEF scholarship provided allowed her more opportunity to focus on her studies. Read her feature also in the mid-week News.

Bowie fish fry to assist youth fair sales on Jan. 4

Enjoy a fish fry and live music concert on Jan. 4 all to support the 4-H and FFA youth of Montague County as they compete in the annual youth fair.
The annual Bowie fish fry for the Bowie buyers group will begin serving at 5:30 p.m. at the Bowie Community Center. Cost is $10 per plate. There will be a live auction at 7 p.m.
The evening’s concert will feature Dax Davis. Live music begins at 8:30 p.m. with the Davis concert at 9:30 p.m. Cost for the concert is $25 per ticket and $20 for a student, or $300 for a reserved table for eight.
