LOCAL SPORTS: Henrietta beats Nocona baseball, softball

Henrietta plated 10 runs in the top of the third inning to take a 12-1 lead en route to a 20-6 conquest over homestanding Nocona.
Nocona fought off the mercy rule until the bottom of the fifth.
The Indians scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, but it certainly wasn’t enough on this night that saw Nocona use four pitchers and Henrietta mash seven doubles.
Nocona stands at 6-9 overall, and 2-6 in District 3A-9. The Indians will play at Boyd tonight, and then return home for Jacksboro on Thursday.
Jaxon Phipps provided a pair of RBIs in the loss. Tres Howard and Charles Evans both scored twice for the Indians.
The teams combined for nine defensive errors in this wild contest.
Jeremy James singled to score Robert Hawkins and Howard plated a run on Evans’ RBI groundout in the fifth.
Nocona could have scored more runs in the fourth, but the Indians grounded into a double play. Evans plated his first run on a Phipps’ RBI single in the third.
