City of Nocona recognizes heroic efforts in dog attack

The life-saving efforts of a Nocona man were recognized by the Nocona City Council with a proclamation presented during the March 11 meeting.
Mayor Robert Fenoglio read the proclamation for “Donovan Houston Day,” honoring his quick actions in helping save Sherry Morgan, a neighbor who was being attacked by a pack of large dogs on Feb. 8 outside her home on Fannin Street.
The police report indicates the 78-year-old Morgan was attacked by a neighbor’s five dogs. She was stabilized at Nocona General Hospital, but then flown by helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital. While she was released, Morgan may face additional surgeries for skin grafts.
The dogs were seized and quarantined awaiting a hearing for violating city codes. That case was settled this week, see story on page 3A of the Thursday edition.

Former District Attorney Casey Hall is seeking a change of venue in her theft case due to what her motion calls“highly prejudicial media coverage” that would not allow her to receive a fair trial in the 97th District.
This motion came following a new indictment that was issued in February for theft of property $2,500-$30,000, third degree felony and misapplication of fiduciary property $2,500-$30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations state Hall deposited Montague County funds into her personal bank account between May and October 2022.
The former DA was originally arrested July 9, 2024 for theft $2,500-$30,000 for alleged incidents noted between May and September 2024. The new indictment extended it through Oct. 4, 2024.
