Forestburg Fire Chief Brady Dill and Firefighter Doug Tillman hold a check for $18,000.

The Bowie Rural and Forestburg Volunteer Fire Departments have both received grants from the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Bowie Rural received a $36,000 grant to go toward purchasing a new slip-on unit with a compressed air foam system.

The unit will be placed on the back of a Ford F450 truck with four wheel drive and be used to cover its 175 square mile service district as well as offering mutual aid to other areas.

In need of upgrading some of its older equipment, Forestburg Volunteer Fire Department sought help from Texas A&M Forest Service’s House Bill 2604 grant program.

The result was an $18,000 grant awarded to FVFD to help them purchase a new slip-on unit that allowed the department to retire an old 1970 model truck. (pictured – Randall Preuninger and Ray Jones of the Bowie Rural VFD. Courtesy photo)
