7-ON-7 FOOTBALL: Mixed bag for Rabbits

The Bowie High School football team won one game, and lost two others at a 7-on-7 State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday at Wichita Falls.
Bowie defeated First Baptist Academy of Dallas, but suffered losses to Argyle 42-14, and Scurry-Rosser. The score versus Scurry-Rosser couldn’t be verified.
Argyle and Brock were the qualifiers from this tournament to the state Division II tournament, which will take place July 9-10 at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.
Bowie will have one more chance to qualify for state when the it competes in the Boyd SQT on June 20.
“I was pleased with the effort,” Bowie head football coach Dylan Stark said. “They looked sharp, and every game was competitive.”
Due to University Interscholastic League rules, Stark and his assistants were unable to coach the team. Rather, Craig Stallcup served as the coach.
“I think we played well, and we had some standout plays,” Stallcup said.
Players dealt with various weather conditions. The opening game versus Scurry-Rosser at Memorial Stadium was wet while games versus First Baptist Academy and Argyle were humid.
In 7-on-7 football, the field is 45 yards long. All offensive plays must be passes. The field is marked at 15-yard intervals with cones, and three first downs without a penalty results in a touchdown. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
