JIM BOWIE DAYS: It’s time for the rodeo

When he was 14 years old, Bobby DelVecchio rode his first bull at a place called Cow Town in Woodstown, N.J.
DelVecchio was hooked, and he wound up becoming a 2006 Professional Bull Riders Ring of Honor inductee after a successful career.
This week, DelVecchio takes his turn as grand marshal of the Jim Bowie Days rodeo parade set for 10 a.m. on Saturday. It’s just part of rodeo week here in the city.
“It’s pretty cool,” said DelVecchio, who now serves as a managing partner at Patterson Auto Group of Bowie, “to be recognized by the community. Rodeo has been a big part of my life.”
Youth rodeo continues tonight at 7 p.m., with mutton bustin’ one hour prior. The main rodeo is set for 8 p.m. from June 25-27.
DelVecchio said the Jim Bowie Days rodeo gets better each year he has been here.
“I’m looking forward to the parade, and seeing new and old friends,” added DelVecchio, who also was enshrined in the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame the same year he helped purchase the auto dealership.
Stock will be provided once again by T-N-T Rodeo Company based in Anson, which is north of Abilene.
“We’re looking forward to another Jim Bowie Days Rodeo,” said T-N-T owner and proprietor Mitch Terrell, who runs the business with his sons, Trevor and Tyler. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
