Local shelters participate with Clear the Shelter Day

ShelterHearts for the Bowie Animal Shelter and Easy Street Shelter will both take part in Clear the Shelter Day on Aug. 15.

This event also takes place on National Shelter Day, and it is an opportunity to visit your local shelter and see all the great things being done to help and protect lost and abandoned animals.

Shelters all over the nation are having special adoption events to help find homes for homeless animals.

ShelterHearts will be at the shelter from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. offering refreshments and balloons.

The adoption fee will be waived and there are plans for a puppy fest and some dog bathing.

Easy Street Animal Shelter in Saint Jo will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. and all adoptions will be half price.

The shelter is located one-half mile east of Saint Jo on U.S. Highway 82.

AgriLife Extension hosting preserving the harvest workshop

Texas AgriLife Extension will host a July workshop on July 26, Preserving the Harvest, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Montague County, 300 W. Nelson.
This four-part series will teach and review the food preservation processes including water bathing, pickling, dehydrating and pressure canning. This program will have both education and hands-on activities with take-home practice.
Seating is limited so call the extension office to register at 894-4831.

Cantwell to lead Pioneer Court

The 2025 Pioneer Court will be led by Joan Cantwell as the pioneer queen, with Duchesses Bill Ann Jones and Sue Swint.
A coronation of the court will be at 2:30 p.m. on June 27 at the Bowie Community Center. The public is invited to attend the crowning followed by a reception hosted by the Amity Club of Bowie.
