HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Panthers win for Homecoming

After the excitement of Homecoming, the Saint Jo High School football team has two weeks off to prepare for Montague County rival Forestburg.
The Panthers celebrated Homecoming in style by pasting Northside 55-34 at Harley Sewell Field in Saint Jo this past Friday.
And what a difference it makes having Blake Anderson back on the field after missing the Gold-Burg game.
Anderson rushed for 292 yards on 19 carries with five touchdowns and he made eight solo tackles on defense. In addition, Preston Lyons recorded an amazing five interceptions.
“Blake gave us a big boost on offense and defense with his speed,” Saint Jo head coach Chad Tallon said.
Tallon said the Saint Jo freshmen group has its moments where the Panthers let up, like late in the Northside game, but he’s impressed how they have rolled to a 3-1 start on the season.
Saint Jo is off this week.
“It’s good for us,” Tallon said. “It gives us a chance to get healthy, and work on the fundamentals. We still need work on our timing on offense and tackling on defense.”
Saint Jo had two weeks to prepare for athletic Forestburg last year, too, but the Longhorns came up with the victory on its home turf. Read more, and see the complete game summary, in the mid-week Bowie News.
