HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Nocona brooms Bowie

Conventional wisdom suggested that Tuesday’s District 3A-9 match between the Nocona and Bowie High School volleyball teams would be quite competitive.
However, injury-depleted Bowie didn’t have enough depth and Nocona rolled to a sweep of the Lady Rabbits by scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-21.
Nocona improved to 16-11, 3-1 in 3A-9 heading into today’s home match versus Paradise. Bowie travels to Holliday with a record of 17-12, 2-2 in the district.
Lady Indians coach Tiffany Clay told her charges they needed to play with more urgency after a district-opening loss to Holliday.
“Our district is pretty evenly matched, so the difference between the teams sitting at home in the bi-district (playoffs) and the teams that advance will be those who are mentally tough and show up to compete at each game,” the coach commented.
Clay said the girls have increased their expectations, including what they want from this season.
“Bowie made some errors which allowed the momentum to stay on our side most of the game,” Clay added.
Nocona had very few hitting errors and the team produced a .260 attack percentage, and the Lady Rabbit defense had trouble with the Lady Indians.
“We had some errors at the net,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “With those unforced errors, we went away from our game plan and our system. We never seemed to regain it until the final part of third set.” Read more, and see complete statistics, in the weekend Bowie News.
