HIGH SCHOOL TEAM TENNIS: Bowie places second

The Bowie High School team tennis squad participated at the Millsap Tournament on Oct. 15 in Millsap.
The Jackrabbits opened with a loss to Aledo’s junior varsity team by a count of 7-2. Aledo is a Conference 5A school in team tennis.
Bowie then defeated Millsap’s varsity team 5-4 and White Settlement Brewer JV 5-4. Brewer also is 5A school in team tennis – taking second place and earning a plaque.
This marked the first event under new head coach Avery Tate.
Tennis players during the event were as follows: Zach Logan, Spencer Hopson, Brock Boyd, Jonathan Crow, Meagan Russell, Myah Russell, Jasmine Hernandez, Yesinia Rivera, Sergio DeLeon, Veronica Hernandez, Michael Shaw, Clayton Ogg, Stephanie Crawford, Maria Gonzalez, Victor Tran and Ana DeLeon.
The team will compete again at Krum on Oct. 22.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
