HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Bowie needs four to stop Paradise

Was it a case of perhaps looking ahead to Tuesday’s pivotal District 3A-9 match with Nocona?
Whatever it was, the Bowie High School volleyball needed four games to defeat Paradise during Saturday’s match at home.
Behind Addy Cook’s 23-kill performance, the Lady Rabbits defeated Paradise 17-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-14, improving to 22-14, 7-4 in 3A-9.
“I thought we weren’t mentally ready to play,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “We were sluggish and out of sync for most of the set one.”
Stark said the Lady Panthers’ digging gave them the opening salvo.
“We picked it up and played better in set two,” Stark added. “I was proud of them for fighting through in set three.”
But, Bowie saved its best effort for when that mattered most – the fourth set.
“We can’t have inconsistencies right now, there are too many competitive teams and everyone is feeling the pressure,” Stark said.
City View extended Nocona to four games as well, on Friday night, before the Lady Indians dispatched the Lady Mustangs.
In the end, Cook produced a sizzling .439 hitting percentage, plus she had 11 assists and two ace serves.
Karsen Morgan carried Bowie’s defense with 11 digs while Henslee Ogle supplied seven digs and Taylor Thompson and Madison Little six apiece. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

Bowie’s Addy Cook (10) played an exceptional match versus District 3A-9 foe Paradise on Saturday. Cook finished with 23 kills and 11 assists in a four-set victory for the Lady Rabbits. Click on the image itself for the complete photo. (News photo by Eric Viccaro)

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
