LOCAL VOLLEYBALL: Montague wins tourney

The Montague Independent School District junior high school volleyball team won the Windthorst Tournament on Oct. 3.
The team starts two eighth-grade girls, three in seventh grade and one in sixth.
The group competed in the seventh-grade division at the tournament.
The Eagles defeated Windthorst 25-6, 25-7, Henrietta 25-15, 25-16 and Holliday 25-9, 25-12, and the girls ran their overall season record to 10-0.
Trystin Fenoglio was 100 percent on her serves with nine aces, six digs, five kills and 24 assists.
Hope Howard contributed two ace serves, 19 kills and six digs. Averee Kleinhans supplied 15 kills to go with three digs.
Taygon Jones served 100 percent with six aces plus five digs, eight kills and 12 assists. Gabby Valdez contributed four digs and five assists. Halea Holding added two digs and two assists.
Sydni Messer, Mikey Jordan, Jackie Hanna, Maci McWilliams and Becky Smith also play on the team.

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
