The Forestburg High School football team even found ways to score on busted plays during Thursday’s 62-6 Conference 1A Division II bi-district game.
Twice, J.D. Moore picked up bad snaps and delivered touchdown passes to Stevie Carroll and Nate Shepherd.
“We didn’t play as crisp as we should have, but we won the first playoff game,” Forestburg head coach Wayne Tuckwell said. “It’s another first in the history of the school, it’s a huge deal.”
Making the win all the sweeter for Tuckwell was the fact the game took place at Northside ISD Stadium, located 10 miles north of Vernon, where he got his start coaching.
With the win, Forestburg improved to 8-3. The Longhorns will play Motley County in the area round at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Chillicothe. Benjamin ended the season 3-8.
Motley County blanked Avoca-Leuders 45-0 on Thursday evening as well.
Tuckwell was proud of how the players overcame slipshod play on offense.
“We can run our offense, even though we were sloppy,” the coach commented. Tuckwell also thought the team also could have tackled better on defense, but he liked the Longhorns’ intensity. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.

In the eight-and-under division, Whitley Goins won the top cowgirl and Trell Carpenter won top cowboy. Goins got the fastest times in barrel racing, flags and mystery event. Carpenter got the fastest time in poles and goats.
