Montague County caught the tail-end of the big winter blizzard that struck Texas over the weekend. The Panhandle was covered with snow and ice, but further south, Montague County received only about an inch of snow, coupled with high winds and rain. Some 2.21 inches of rain fell in Bowie over the weekend. Monday dawned with snow and dangerous road conditions, but by the end of the day much of it had melted away. An overnight freeze with a low of 24 degrees created some icy conditions Tuesday morning, but things began to thaw out by mid-morning. These hay bales along State Highway 59 North were dusted with snow Monday.
