OUTDOORS: Texas parks report vibrant foliage

Published

on

Texas state parks are full with vibrant fall colors.
That’s according to a press release from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, even though about one-quarter of the trees in Montague and surrounding counties have already lost their leaves.
In the Panhandle and West Texas, cottonwood trees are golden, brightening the canyons and creek beds at Palo Duro Canyon and in the Davis Mountains.
In East Texas at parks in Tyler and Daingerfield, hardwood forests have turned golden and burnt orange.
At Caddo Lake State Park in Karnack, cypress trees light up the water with the reflections of rust-colored needles.
There also are orange, yellow and red coloring among the live oaks and cedar trees in central Texas.
At Inns Lake State Park in Burnet, burnt orange and crimson trees dot the shoreline.
Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area, northwest of Austin, also has color.
Oak trees showed the best fall colors there, the TPWD said, blanketing the area in warm colors. Read more in the Dec. 5 edition of The Bowie News.
