HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Bowie boys lock down Nocona

There was one overriding difference between Nocona’s victory at Bowie in District 3A-9 action earlier this season, and Tuesday night’s blowout Jackrabbit win.
Bowie played hard-nosed perimeter defense to keep the Indians’ outside shooters in check, and that resulted in a 71-37 victory.
“They made a lot of uncontested shots the last time,” Bowie head coach Doug Boxell said. “We face-guarded Hill, and we stayed on their shooters. We didn’t give them a lot of shots.”
Bowie improved to 17-10 overall, and the Jackrabbits sit atop 3A-9 at 9-1. Nocona dropped to 18-9, 6-4.
“They played great team defense against us,” Nocona head coach Bret Botard said. “They did a good job of pressuring the ball, and they were able to get in the passing lanes.” Read more, and see complete box scores, in the Feb. 6 Bowie News.
