HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Rabbits’ win streak stopped

Of all the ways for Bowie’s winning streak in District 3A-9 girls’ basketball games to end, it was this.
During a scramble for the ball, an official called a foul on Bowie’s Taylor Martin with 0.17 seconds remaining and the Lady Rabbits tied with Boyd at 55-all.
Lady Jacket Lindsey Thorpe went to the line to shoot free throws.
Before Thorpe actually tried her attempts, several rules were misinterpreted.
First, no players were allowed to line up outside the lane for the free throws on what was a standard foul with time left in regulation. Next, Bowie head coach Colby Davis-Pastusek wasn’t allowed to call consecutive timeouts as was her right.
Thorpe made the first free throw, giving Boyd the lead, as part of her game-high 31-point performance. She missed the second one, and the ball bounced several times before anyone picked it up because no one was standing along the lane. Read more in the Jan. 23 Bowie News.
