OUTDOORS: Conservation Council meets

The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council had its first-ever meet under the administration of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The council was formed with the help of more than $2 million in legislative appropriations to help bring more land under long-term conservation protection.
The goal is conservation of working lands with high values for water, fish, wildlife and agricultural production.
Stewardship of private lands is encouraged, which will ensure natural resources for generations to come. Creating awareness and leveraging available money for funding are two objectives.
Texas leads the national in the loss and conversion of working farm and ranch lands. Read more in the Feb. 13 Bowie News.
