HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Forestburg claims bi-district crown, tops Milford

The Forestburg High School boys’ basketball team finished with a 14-1 edge in free-throw attempts as the Longhorns defeated Milford 71-38 for a bi-district title in Conference 1A Region 3 on Tuesday at Joshua High School.
Forestburg also won the game because of balanced offense and the Longhorns forced 25 steals, paced by seven from J.D. Moore.
“We played good team defense,” Forestburg head boys’ basketball coach Steve Sandusky said. “We didn’t have any stupid fouls, and our defensive rebounds led to many fastbreaks. We only committed three fouls.”
This marked the second straight season Forestburg claimed a bi-district championship, improving to 17-7.
The Longhorns had the daunting task of playing Texas Association of Basketball Coaches second-ranked Avinger (29-2) on Friday at Wolfe City in the 1A-3 area round.
Bear Osteen was Forestburg’s leading scorer with 18 points, and four Longhorns tallied double-digit points in all. Read more, and see the box score, in the Feb. 27 Bowie News.
