Bowie High School football player Jared Roberts never thought he’d be the position he was last Friday in the school library.
Surrounded by family, teammates and Bowie administration, Roberts signed an NAIA Letter-of-Intent to continue his football career at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview – out in West Texas.
“It means I’ll be able to get a good education, and continue my career,” Roberts said. “I always wanted to play college football. But, I never thought I would be in that situation until it happened.”
Roberts transformed himself one of the best linemen in District 4-3A I, named to the first-team offense, along with teammates Josh Monkres, running back Brandon Hutto, quarterback Trace Hardee and wide receivers Jeffery Howard and Chase Hall.
The 6-foot-4, 314-pounder becomes the first Jackrabbit to sign and play college football since Garland McCoy at Texas Lutheran in Seguin two years ago. Read more in the Feb. 27 Bowie News.
