The Bowie High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams took the next step on the journey Thursday evening, competing at the Jacksboro Invitational.
The boys finished second overall with 119 points, which was well behind front-runner Graham but ahead of fellow District 3A-9 teams.
“I was pleased with how we did,” Bowie boys’ head coach Daylon West said. “I thought we would be able to squeeze out a few more points in events, but the kids competed well.”
West was pleased with how relays performed, saying handoffs are improving. Senior Zeke Vaughan scored a lion’s share of points for the squad, which also received stellar performances from Jeffery Howard, Gary Mosley, Daniel Mosley and Logan Boyd among others.
The girls were eighth overall, collecting 29 points and placed ahead of 3A-9 foe Boyd.
“I was proud of how hard our kids competed at Jacksboro,” girls’ head coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said. “We are improving each week in preparation for district. We had some season-bests in multiple events.”
The meet featured several District 3A-9 schools including meet host Jacksboro and Paradise.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
