HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Back-to-back Jacks

Like last year’s District 3A-9 game at Henrietta, the Bearcats pushed the Bowie High School baseball team right to the very end.
Henrietta’s Riley Watson slapped a groundball toward Bowie’s Chandler Dean, who ranged to left and threw a spear to Gabe Allen at first base.
That gave Bowie the final out it needed to claim the District 3A-9 title for the second successive season.
“I talked to coach (Kyle) Sims after the game, and they’ve had several come-from-behind wins,” Bowie head coach Ryan Rogers said. “They are never finished until the last out. It’s a credit to our kids that they executed.”
Dean had go deep into the hole at shortstop to make the play, and Rogers said Dean used the turf “to his advantage, and Gabe had to make a pick on the back end.”
For Rogers, the 3A-9 championship is the culmination of another strong regular season in which the Jackrabbits have improved to 17-7-1 and unblemished in district.
“We’ve been fortunate to have good kids that have worked hard,” said Rogers, who now has won 57 games in three seasons as skipper. Read more, and see complete box scores and district standings, in the April 20 Bowie News.
