HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Dean deals one-hit win over Holliday

Bowie High School pitcher Chandler Dean may not have produced another double-digit strikeout game, but he pitched effectively nevertheless.
Dean pitched a five-inning one-hitter, and the Jackrabbit bats produced a six-run rally with two outs in the second inning to defeat District 3A-9 rival Holliday 10-0. It marked one of the worst home losses for the Eagles in recent memory.
“Chandler was dominant, and he went right at them,” Bowie head coach Ryan Rogers said. “They put some balls in play early in the count, which knocked down his strikeout total, but they weren’t good swings.”
Dean struck out eight and walked one. Overall, 67.1 percent of his 70 total pitches went for strikes. He lost the no-hitter in the fifth inning as Holliday’s John Dyes slapped a single to dead center.
Bowie improved to 11-7-1, and 5-0 in District 3A-9, which puts the Jackrabbits in front. The team played host to Nocona on Friday evening, and will travel to Boyd on Tuesday.
Paradise 11, Nocona 0
Robert Hawkins was the lone Indian to record a hit as Paradise blanked Nocona, 11-0, at Bob Storey Field. Tanner Cable, Jeremy James and Kameron Hill pitched for the Indians. Read more, and see box scores and district standings, in the April 2 Bowie News.
