The Bowie High School junior varsity tennis team had its own tournament on Friday, and many of them fared well.
Bowie’s Ana De Leon was tops in girls’ singles, defeating a player from City View by a count of 8-1.
Victor Tran finished as runner-up at No. 1 boys’ singles, falling in a hard-fought title match 9-8 (7-3 in the tie-breaker).
Bowie also reached the title match of the girls’ doubles division, but Yesinia Rivera and Jasmine Hernandez lost 8-6 to a team from Henrietta.
Kinley Hansard and Lindy Hackley of Nocona won the consolation girls’ doubles title.
In boys’ doubles, it was Bowie vs. Bowie as the team of Jeramy Stone and Joey Crawford defeated Jonathan Crow and Billy Brown 8-2.

District tourney wraps up today

The District 3A-9 tennis tournament will wrap up today, and Bowie and Nocona will be competing to advance to the 3A Region 2 tournament later this month.
Matches will take place at the Bowie High School tennis courts, with championships in boys and girls’ singles and doubles and mixed doubles slated to take place.
Last year, Bowie’s No. 1 singles player Katelin Price and No. 1 doubles team of Meagan and Myah Russell qualified for the regional meet.
