HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Regional players are ready

Bowie High School and select Conference 1A tennis players will be competing in regional tournaments next week.
The Conference 3A Region II meet will take place at Tyler Junior College, which has a 16-court outdoor facility, on April 19-20.
Bowie will send the girls’ doubles team of Meagan Russell and Myah Russell, who qualified for the state tournament a year ago.
Katelin Price is set for girls’ singles, with Michael Shaw and Maria Gonzalez playing in the mixed doubles draw.
Carcyn Robertson and Jessie Roth are alternates in girls’ doubles, Stephanie Crawford in girls’ singles and Veronica Hernandez and Sergio DeLeon in mixed doubles – all these performers finished third.
Bowie’s girls claimed the district title, and boys were second to Henrietta.
The 3A-II coaches meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. on April 18.
Region 1A-III
Prairie Valley’s Taylor Carter, as an alternate, has advanced in girls’ singles to the Conference 1A Region 3 tournament set for April 18-19 Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
Carter finished third at the District 1A-21 meet; but, she will go since Saint Jo’s Sarah Patrick opted not to play.
Also heading to the 1A-III regional meet is the Forestburg boys’ doubles tandem of Malaci Moore and Skyler Sandusky.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
