The Bowie High School boys’ track and field team earned its second straight second-place finish, scoring 110 points during the 2016 Jackrabbit Relays on Monday.
Bowie head coach Daylon West was certainly pleased with the results, and the Jackrabbits competed well against other District 3A-9 schools and a strong group from Breckenridge.
“I was pleased with Zeke’s times,” said West when discussing 2015 state qualifier Zeke Vaughan in the hurdles. “He’s getting his time down, and I think we finally found our answer in the mile relay.”
Logan Boyd was added to the 1,600-meter relay group consisting of Jeffery Howard, Dillon Swaim and Vaughan.
The District 3A-9 meet begins on April 4 at Jacksboro, with Day Two slated for April 7.
Nocona made some improvements on the boys’ side as well with Luis Rico winning the 800-meter run and Tanner Cable and Barkley Hayes picking up points in the 300-meter hurdles and discus, respectively.
Rico clocked in at 2 minutes, 12.84 seconds, a little less than two seconds faster than Bowie’s Justin Franklin. See complete team standings in the March 30 Bowie News.
Bowie’s Jeffery Howard races toward the line during the 400-meter dash on Monday at the Jackrabbit Relays. Howard earned a top-six finish, and the Jackrabbits were second overall at the meet. See more photos on Pages 5-6B of the March 30 Bowie News. (News photo by Eric Viccaro)
