Bowie City Council to consider solar project proposals
Deliberation on proposals for a distributed generation solar project in the City of Bowie will take place at the May 17 meeting of the city council.
The item is listed for an executive session since the discussion regard “certain public power utilities: Competitive matters.”
Council members are considering a possible solar project that could generate electricity that could help offset the city’s bulk power costs, especially regard to the transmission fees now being charged to cities for moving wind-generated power through a new system of lines across the state.
The first examination of an ordinance related to the operation of food trucks in the city is scheduled. A committee has been working on a draft for the ordinance.
A pair of proclamations will be offered, one for Emergency Medical Service Week and one for National Police Week, both May 15-21.
In other new business, a lease agreement between the city and Rise Broadband to use the water tower for wireless equipment will be examined, along with an ordinance on the negotiated settlement between the ATMOS Cities Steering Committee and ATMOS Energy Corp., Mid-Texas.
A workshop opens the meeting at 6 p.m. and will include a review of agenda items, departmental reports and the city manager’s report. The regular agenda will follow.
On Friday city officials reported the intersection at Rock and Pillar was closed due to a sinkhole in the street. This area has been experiencing major drainage problems for many years damaging culverts and the street asphalt and concrete, with a portion of the street collapsing earlier in the spring. Drivers should avoid this area.
The Nocona City Council approved a trio of Nocona Economic Development Corporation requests and considered infrastructure work questioned by a city council.
Councilors met on June 10. Two of the NEDC requests had already been presented with the timeclock for comment started. With that time limit over, the requests were finalized.
The Type A and B Boards will spend $19,225 at the Indian Oaks Golf Club for equipment, aerifying and top dressing the greens and batteries for rental carts. It also will expend $20,000 to the Nocona Chisholm Trail Rodeo Arena Committee to build new concrete bleachers, railings, fence and platform.
The third NEDC request is a new one related to a Type B board loan of $200,000 to Amy and Chris Nunneley for a new apartment and office construction project.
