This will mark the first time ever the Texas High School Bass Association will have a true state tournament.
And four Bowie High School anglers will be part of the event.
Mitch Sanders, Jared Stone, Lane Hopson and Hadley Morgan have all qualified for the THSBA state tournament set for Toledo Bend in Zwolle, La.
Sanders and Stone combined to bag five fish weighing 16.03 pounds, including one that weighed slightly more than six pounds at the THSBA regional tournament on Saturday at Richland-Chambers Reservoir in Corsicana.
That was good enough for sixth place.
“They did an outstanding job of finding fish,” said Bowie team coordinator Trent Gillaspia. “They found a group of fish that were all a good size.”
The six-pounder was a largemouth bass and the fourth-largest fish caught, Gillaspia reported.
Hopson and Morgan were able to weigh two fish that combined to weigh 4.26 pounds, reeling both of them in during the morning. The pair finished 57th.
Overall, there were 204 two-person teams that weighed 211 fish. The total fish weight was 649.43 pounds. Read more in the May 11 Bowie News.
