Three track and field athletes qualified for the state meet from Conference 1A-Region 3 this weekend at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
And a father was able to share a special moment with his son.
Skyler Sandusky has tried for three years to make it out of the regional meet and go to state, and he finally accomplished that goal.
Sandusky claimed the gold medal in the 400-meter dash during Saturday’s finals, recording a personal-best time of 51.21 seconds.
He was 1.7 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Gaven Branscum of Blum.
“We are proud,” said Steve Sandusky, Skyler’s father and Forestburg head coach. “We knew he had to run his best.”
Coach Sandusky said Skyler attacked the first 200 meters well, and he was able to keep his stride the rest of the way for the grand prize. Skyler was able to conquer the third turn, which had been a nemesis in the past. Read more in the May 4 Bowie News.
